2020 Grants

Hello Darlings,

In 2020 I had the honor of receiving 2 grants from 4Culture and Artist Trust. Both grants were used to continue my cultural work as an artist and activist. One exciting thing I was able to purchase with the grant money was a digital camera! So… I have expanded my creative practice to include digital photography - something I have wanted to do for ages.

TeenTix Presents: Arts Essentials

Hello Darlings,

I had the opportunity to be a part of the TeenTix Art’s Essential series.

“Arts Essentials pairs young people with arts leaders for conversations that matter. In this Arts Essentials conversation, TeenTix Newsroom Writer Eleanor Cenname sits down with Becs Richards, Artist/Journalist/Activist and TeenTix Press Corps Teaching Artist for a conversation about how art has impacted their lives and how they find connection in a virtual age - all while folding origami and drawing!”

See the to the video interview below.

Lavender Rights Project Artist Showcase

Hi Darlings,

Back in November I got to be a part of coordinating Lavender Rights Project’s Artist Showcase. Lavender Rights Project provides legal advocacy and community education by and for the queer community. I was one of 7 chosen community curators for two events: an LGBTQ Artist Reception and an LGBTQ Art Auction. Both were amazing. I met so many talented queer artists. It was refreshing and life-giving to be a part of a project that was so community oriented. YAY! Here’s some photos of the art and event. I hope to do more work like this in the future!

xoxo.

Here With You

Hello Darlings,

About a year ago I saw a posting on Instagram about a new short film that was being made called Here With You. It followed a budding romance between two trans people. I was immediately enthralled! When I found out the film was coming to Seattle Queer Film Festival I got in touch with the writer and producer of the film, Morgan Sullivan.

I interviewed Morgan about the making of the film, and wrote about it HERE for the South Seattle Emerald.

One of my favorite quotes from Morgan is: “I personally love dating other trans people, because I feel like they get me. I feel like there is a lot that I don’t have to explain and I know that I can trust them to see me as who I am.”

Fruit4Fruit

Hi darlings!

Hope you had a lovely summer <3

I recently got to be a part of an artist residency at the newly opened Town Hall in Seattle. The residency was called Sow Queer and was organized by HATLO.

I had a really great time and met a lot of artists that I really look up to!

My friend Adrian and I did a performance called “Fruit4Fruit” exploring T4T relationships and intimacy. I will share more professional photos when they are all edited, but here is a sneak peak. Hoping to do more of this performance work in the future.

South Seattle Emerald

Hi darlings!

Here is my first piece for the South Seattle Emerald. I got the chance to chat with Simone Pin Productions and learn about their story. They are a woman of color-owned and operated burlesque company in Seattle. I feel honored to have been able to contribute to SSE, and write about a group of folks committed to developing a more equitable arts & performance community.

New piece for Rad Power Bikes

Hello darlings,

I recently wrote a piece for the Rad Power Bikes blog! I got to interview a very kind, community-focused man named Michel from Quebec about his work with an etrike to make libraries more accessible.

Check out the piece here.
